Unleash your creativity and refine your skills in this two-day deep dive into pouring vessels at Radius Art Studio. Whether you’re drawn to teapots, pitchers, watering cans, or your own imaginative hybrids, this workshop is all about building forms that pour beautifully and feel good in the hand.
Designed for those with some wheel experience, this class is a chance to expand your technical skills while exploring form, function, and personal style.
Day One – Throwing Components
We’ll start by breaking down the anatomy of a successful pouring vessel. You’ll throw and explore:
- Vessel bodies (from classic to sculptural)
- Lids and gallery systems for a good fit
- Spouts, including off-the-hump techniques
- Considerations for balance, volume, and flow
Lela of Now What Pottery Works will guide you through demos and hands-on making, helping you create pieces that are both functional and expressive.
Day Two – Trimming, Assembling & Refinement
Day two is where everything comes together. You’ll:
- Trim and refine forms
- Dial in lid fit and function
- Pull and attach handles with comfort and ergonomics in mind
- Attach spouts and troubleshoot pouring performance
Expect lots of individualized feedback to help your piece feel intentional, balanced, and uniquely yours.
Post-Workshop Glazing, Firing, and Pickup:
Choose your favorite teapot or vessel to have glazed and fired. We have options for white, black, or blue glaze for your finished piece. Radius Art Studio will take care of the glazing and firing process, and your vessel will be ready for pickup during our regular open studio hours during the month of August.
Skill Level: This workshop is designed for those with intermediate or advanced wheel throwing skills. While some prior throwing experience is necessary, our workshop is designed to accommodate various skill levels, and Lela will work with each student to help them work towards their goals.
