Description

This in person class is organized to address the needs of the beginner painter who wants to practice and learn the basics. New painters will learn to build an acrylic underpainting from scratch, and mix colors while developing your ability to evaluate value and composition. The setting is relaxed and informative. For returning students with experience in acrylic or oil, this workshop will provide an opportunity to work on independent projects. The intention of this class is to create a space for artistic learning, showing by example in real time the practice and thought process of being an artist, creating a IRL group space to share and talk about art while offering advice on materials, technique, and subject matter. As an instructor, Cole is here to help students address artist blocks, and model how to create time and space for a nourishing art practice. A materials list will be provided.

About the instructor: Cole is a painter and visual artist based in Portland Oregon. Nature is the biggest influence in Cole’s art especially now that natural disasters are ever increasing with climate change. Making observations, interpretations, and communicating the forms of nature that he thinks should be preserved and cherished is his goal. He wants to create excitement about preservation through visual interest by bringing the feelings and emotions associated in nature. Cole studied illustration at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and has a Bachelors of Arts in Art History from Portland State University.
