Description

This hands-on wheel throwing workshop is focused on making things to fire in our Cone 10 Gas Kiln, Shirley! Designed for intermediate students who are ready to refine their skills and explore more complex forms, each session will combine live demonstrations and one on one guidance from our talented instructor. This class will help you expand your wheel-throwing techniques and explore your artistic expression through clay. Experiment with finishing your pieces using our large selection of cone 10 glazes, and learn how the atmosphere of our manual gas kiln affects these glazes and creates an element of surprise in its range of effects.

Students will work on refining basic forms such as cups and bowls, expanding to create more complex forms, exploring working in multiples to gain efficiency, and throwing larger.

Students should be comfortable with centering and pulling even walls prior to taking this class.

The structure of this workshop is a bit different than our regular 12-week summer workshops. A large focus of the workshop is centered around loading and firing the gas kiln, so please note these dates:

Friday, ____: Class in the morning, kiln loading starting at 6pm (attendance optional)
