What would you like to make space for? A loved one, a new beginning, your creative practice, or perhaps your deep devotion to your garden? In this five-week class, we’ll create personal ceramic altars that can be meaningful, playful, or a little of both.
We’ll begin by exploring why people make altars, from remembrance and gratitude to celebration, intention, and everyday rituals. Through conversation and sketching, you’ll consider what you’d like yours to honor and how shapes, symbols, and objects can help express that idea.
Rin will demonstrate slab, pinch, and coil building techniques, then help you choose the combination of methods to help make your idea come to life. We’ll also explore decorating techniques to bring texture, color, and personal details to your work. Create a small altar to hang on the wall or sit on a table, with room for meaningful objects or ceramic pieces you make along the way.
Bring your curiosity, your stories, and a willingness to play. Together, we’ll turn clay into a special place for something you love.
This workshop includes:
- 5 instructed Sessions, 2.5 hours each
- 12 lbs of clay, 10 firing slips, and access to tools and our large selection of custom glazes
- 12 free Open Studio Hours to practice independently. Open Studio Hours are valid through the end of the 5 week course. Hours are redeemed in 2 hour “blocks”. Additional hours can be purchased at $20 per 2 hour block.
