Join us for a creative and skill-building week at Radius Art Studio’s Wheel Throwing Camp! This camp is perfect for kids ages 10–13 who are curious about the pottery wheel and excited to learn how clay works through hands-on making.
This camp is wheel-focused while also including handbuilding projects, giving students a chance to explore multiple ways of working with clay. Throughout the week, students will learn:
-
The basics of throwing on the pottery wheel
-
How to shape and refine their forms
-
Handbuilding techniques such as pinch and slab
-
Fun surface decoration with underglaze
Campers will create several finished pieces while gaining confidence with both the wheel and handbuilding.
Class size is limited to 8 students for more individualized instruction.
All finished pieces will be fired and glazed by Radius staff and will be ready for pickup at our Young Artist Open House on Saturday, September 4th from 2:30-4pm . If you cannot attend the open house, artwork may be picked up during open studio hours through October 5th.
We recommend packing a daily snack to keep the creativity flowing.
Important Note About Support Needs:
Wheel throwing can be physically and technically challenging, and works best for students who are patient, able to follow multi-step instructions, and comfortable trying something new and difficult. For younger campers or those new to clay, families may want to consider the Handbuilding & Sculpture Camp instead.
Each camp group has one instructor. If your child has behavioral, emotional, or learning needs that may require additional one-on-one support, please email us before registering so we can talk about whether this camp will be a good fit. Our goal is for every camper to feel safe, supported, and successful.
