Description
The structure of this workshop is a bit different than our regular 12-week summer workshops. A large focus of the workshop is centered around loading and firing a soda kiln that will take place at The Clay Compound in NE Portland (Cully neighborhood).
In this Summer Soda Firing workshop, students will have class time to further develop their wheel throwing skills as well as discuss glaze, and how glaze and soda firing interact. Studens will also get to experiment with spray glaze application. The lessons will be a mix of skill-building exercises and project-based lessons, and are always informed by the student’s goals. This class is geared towards those who have a foundation in clay, with an end goal that everyone will leave more informed about the making and soda firing process.
Some Wheel throwing experience is required (12 weeks of previous clay experience is recommended).
