Discover new perspectives on an ancient material. Terra Sigillata is an ultrafine clay slip that gives a soft satin gloss finish when applied to bone-dry wares. From formulation to application, we will explore the potential and diversity of fine particle slip as a glaze alternative to seal clay surfaces. We will expand the testing palette by adding pigment additions for customs colors. Join guest artist Adrienne Eliades to increase your material knowledge and contemporize this rich and expressive surface technique.

This course is open to all skill levels. Hand-builders and wheel throwers are welcome. Previous experience in clay will be helpful but is not necessary.

Students should plan to bring 3-5 bone dry pieces made from any cone 6 clay to practice the Terra Sig on. Radius will provide some test tiles for those of you who don’t have pieces to bring.

Bisque and Glaze firing of 3 pieces is also included in the cost of the workshop. More pieces may be fired for an additional fee.
