Description
Join us for a skill-building workshop designed to inspire creativity and enhance your ceramics practice. While this workshop is great for those with some experience working with clay, beginners are also welcome. Whether you’re looking to develop or refine your techniques or develop a clearer personal narrative in your ceramics work, this class offers the perfect space to explore. Curiosity, play, and experimentation are encouraged throughout!
What to Expect:
During this 3-hour hands-on workshop, there will be an explanation of techniques with visual examples of a vast variety of pieces that were decorated using underglaze. Your instructor Jess Faulk will provide you with a handout that includes suggested tools and materials, as well as explanations of workshop techniques. There will be a demonstration using a variety of reductive and applied underglaze decorating techniques, some examples might include: stencil resist, carving, inlaying, wax resist, water etching, and more! Once equipped with information, each participant gets to practice and explore these processes on the provided test tiles. As you try out these methods, Jess will be there to guide you, troubleshoot, and answer any questions along the way.
Each student will be provided with up to 4 round test tiles embedded with a special high-temperature wire for easy hanging and display after completion. We will be working with greenware (unfired) tiles. After the workshop, your pieces will undergo a two-part firing process. Completed works will be available for pickup during shop hours approximately one month later. If you already have a clay practice or are taking a workshop at Radius or another studio, you are welcome to bring your own greenware (unfired) pieces. But please note that Radius can not fire any additional pieces you might bring to the workshop unless you are a current student or member.

- Eligibility: Open to participants aged 18+, all skill levels welcome
- Pickup Window: Finished pieces will be ready for pickup from March 21st to April 19th during open studio hours:
- Tuesdays: 1-5 PM
- Fridays: 4–8 PM
- Saturdays: 1–5 PM
- Sundays: 10 AM–2 PM
Please note: We do not send notifications for finished work, so be sure to mark your calendar for the pickup window.
