Description

This workshop is designed for both beginners and for folks that have a ceramics practice. Do you want to have two handmade plates to enjoy at your table? Or do you already work with clay but are looking to add new information and techniques to your toolbox? Maybe you are looking to develop a clearer personal narrative in your ceramics practice. Curiosity, play, and experimentation are encouraged during this workshop!

During this hands-on workshop, each participant will get two hand-built plates to decorate and experiment on. Your instructor will demonstrate various ways of decorating clay with underglaze using both reductive and applied approaches. Get a glimpse into stencil resist, carving, inlaying, wax resist, and more. While students experiment and try the various learned techniques, Jess will be there to help you troubleshoot and answer any questions you might have.

Everyone will get 2 plates to decorate, one will be a bisque (once fired) and the other will be unfired (greenware). After the workshop, the pieces will go through a two-part firing process which takes a few weeks, and will be ready to pick up during shop hours approximately 1 month later.

Pieces made in Radius workshops take a few weeks to fire after your workshop, most pieces are ready one month after the date of your class. Please note, due to the volume of workshops we host you will not be notified when your piece is ready. We will hold your completed piece(s) for one month after the “ready for pick up” date, they will be available for pick up during Open Hours. Unclaimed work will be recycled or donated after that time period.
