Description
This class is for artists ready to deepen their drawing practice. Participants bring a project they want to explore, and we provide the space, structure, and support to bring it to life. With just the right mix of accountability and feedback, this simple container can spark radical shifts in your art. This class has brought forth bodies of work for art shows, helped people finalize the pages of their zine, explore master studies of famous artists, finish books, break through creative blocks, and build confidence in their creative voices.
You’re welcome to work with almost any two-dimensional medium: acrylic or oil paint, watercolor, chalk pastel, colored pencil, markers, collage, pen and ink—even light 3D explorations are encouraged.
Lettie Jane will offer guidance on materials, craft, and composition, but you steer the ship. Come with your own materials, a rough idea for a drawing or painting project, and a willingness to experiment along the way. We’ll provide weekly feedback, work time, the Ulna still-life collection, and access to some shared studio supplies.
This course is perfect if you’re craving creative community and accountability. Whether you’ve explored all the materials in Intuitive Drawing and want to focus on watercolor, or you’re diving into abstraction for the first time, this is a space for committed, open-ended exploration.
About the instructor: Lettie Jane Rennekamp is an illustrator and artist based in Portland, Oregon by way of Kentucky. Her illustrations are bold and tender at the same time, depicting motherhood, varying versions of gender expression, community, and nature all together. About our classroom space: Ulna studio is a creative space located on the 2nd floor of the Portland Storage Building on SE Morrison st. There is NOT always elevator access for arrival/departure to your in-person class. Students always have the option of coming and leaving via a staircase.
