Description

The workshop fee includes 12 sessions, 30 instr. hours + 20 firing slips, and 25lbs of clay.

This workshop is focused on making things to fire in our Cone 10 Gas Kiln, Shirley! Designed to fit the needs of both beginning and intermediate ceramics students, you will learn the basics of how to throw on the potter’s wheel, as well as glazing and firing in a reduction kiln. Explore how the atmosphere of our manual gas kiln affects glazes and creates an element of surprise in its range of effects.

Beginning students will explore the creation of basic forms such as cups and bowls as well as firing and glazing techniques, while intermediate/advanced students explore working in multiples to gain efficiency.

The structure of this workshop is a bit different than our regular 12-week summer workshops. A large focus of the workshop is centered around loading and firing the gas kiln, so please note these dates:

Fridays, Jan 13th-Feb 10th: Workdays 10:30am-1pm

Friday, Feb 17th: No class in the morning, kiln loading starting @6pm (attendance optional)

Saturday, Feb 18th: Firing day (come-and-go as you can, 8am-8pm)

Tuesday, Feb 21st: Unload kiln 6pm (attendance optional)

Fridays, Feb 24th- March 24th: Workdays, 10:30am-1pm

Friday March 31: No class in the morning, kiln loading starting @6pm (attendance optional)

Saturday, April 1st: Firing day (come-and-go as you can, 8am-8pm)

Tuesday, April 4th: Unload kiln 6pm (attendance optional)
