This hands-on workshop will improve students’ aesthetic sensibility to design and make ceramic mugs. A mug is an intimate object that can be for daily use or special rituals. We will consider balancing form and function to create your own dynamic mug design considering unity, balance and proportions ideal for beverage containment. Learn techniques to undertake the challenge of designing and forming handles that exist in perfect harmony with the body of the cup with intention and poise.

This course is open to all skill levels. Hand-builders and wheel throwers are welcome. Previous experience in clay will be helpful but is not necessary.

This hands-on workshop will include some time for either throwing or hand building mug forms, depending on your experience. Students are also welcome to bring leather hard forms to design handles for. Bisque firing of 2 mugs is also included in the cost of the workshop. Glazing must be done at home and can be fired at Radius for an additional cost of 6 cents per cubic inch.
