Wooden Drape and Bisque Mold Workshop w/ Guest Artist Jake Brodsky
October 19th-20th 10am-5pm (1hr lunch break)
In this two day hands on weekend workshop, Jake will teach you the basics of making and using bisque molds and wooden drape molds. He will show you how to create molds out of plywood and bisqued clay that can expand your options for making pots beyond circular, wheel thrown forms. He will then demonstrate different ways to use these molds to create everything from tableware to vases to larger serving pieces.
This class would be perfect for someone with clay experience who is looking to venture into handbuilding or mold making for the first time. Radius will bisque fire the clay molds you make so that you can use them after the class. You will also leave with a wooden drape mold, and the confidence to make your own molds and put them to use in the future!
About Jake Brodsky: Jake is a resident artist at Pottery Northwest in Seattle and makes functional soda-fired pots that are influenced by the natural world, time, and growth and decay. He received much of his ceramic education at Arrowmont and Penland Schools of Crafts and through working at the Archie Bray Foundation as a studio technician. He moved to Seattle in January 2019 for his residency and is continuing to explore the subtle qualities that make a good pot, as well as investigating questions about how objects can help create a home.
