Monotype Clay Transfers with Guest Artist Teresa Pietsch

Instructor: Teresa Pietsch
Dates: Sunday March 1st
Time: 11am-5pm with a 1hr lunch break
Location: Radius Art Studio One, 322 SE Morrison St

Sometimes it can be a struggle to draw imagery on mugs or any three dimensional form. In this one-day hands on workshop, we welcome North Carolina artist and educator Teresa Pietsch to share her knowledge and transfer techniques. Students will explore drawing backgrounds, imagery, and patterns on paper with slips and transferring these renderings onto leather hard pots and soft slabs. We will use a wide palette of colored slips, a variety of brushes and slip trailers, and talk about approaches to more intricate forms. We will also discuss finishing bisqued surfaces using minimal glazing and various fluxing washes to achieve perfect surfaces in electric/oxidation kilns. Recipes and information will be shared freely in this exploration of designing and transferring images from paper to the pots!

All work will be bisque fired at Radius and available for pickup during open studio hours. Students with glazing experience will also have the option to glaze and glaze fire during open hours (open studio fees are $5.50/hour).

This is a wonderful way to expand on existing ceramic skills and learn ways to build outside of the round. All experience levels are welcomed, but some ceramic experience is encouraged.
