Dates: August 3rd-7th Time: 10am- 5pm (with a 1hr lunch)
Location: 322 SE Morrison St
Instructor: Adrienne Eliades
In this 5-day workshop we will learn the foundations of mold making and slip casting. Students will make 2-part plaster molds from simple objects of their choosing. Molds are a useful tool for duplicating the same ceramic piece or translating a non-ceramic object into clay. Adrienne will demonstrate the basics such as mapping the bisect line of the model, claying up your mold and plaster mixing. At the end of the week we will explore casting processes and discuss the practical considerations of making multiples. Due to our tight timeline, we will not be glazing or firing the castings. No experience is necessary, although previous clay experience will be helpful. Participants will complete the workshop with at least one mold.
This class will include all supplies, please bring a selection of 3-5 SIMPLE objects to mold (leather hard pots of your making will work great in addition to fired ceramic, glass, plastic and metal. Adrienne will advise on which one to use.
