Cone 10 Gas Firing Class (Six Weeks, intermediate level)

Wednesday evenings, Oct. 30th – Dec. 11th + kiln loading and firing on Dec. 6th & 7th
Wednesday class times: 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Friday Dec. 6th – begin kiln loading at 6:30pm
Saturday Dec. 7th – all day firing – 3 hour work shift + opportunity for more instruction!
No class on Wednesday, Nov. 27th for Thanksgiving break
Location: Radius Art Studio, 322 SE Morrison St.
Class includes unlimited open studio access during the weeks of the workshop, 1 bag of ^10 B-mix clay, over 20 hours of instruction time and the cost of a bisque and gas firing for 1.5 cubic foot of work per student.
In this workshop, students will be participating in an atmospheric gas firing at Radius Community Art Studio. This workshop will include making work for the firing and learning to load, fire, unload and clean the gas kiln and wares. Students will be exposed to various glazing techniques and learn how a reduction atmosphere affects ceramic wares.
Week one-three: Throwing and assembling demos and work time for students. Sam will be demonstrating some more involved forms and altering/ surface techniques. Week four: Glaze mixing/ application demo. Week five: Finishing work and final push to prep for the firing. December 6th: Evening loading of work into the gas kiln in preparation to fire, students are encouraged to participate but not required. December 7th: Firing from 8am-11pm, students will be required to sign up for at least one shift of 3 hours to help fire, and are encouraged to stay for more. Week six: Unloading work from the kiln, show and tell, potluck celebration!
This class is a great opportunity to grow and build on existing skills and expand your knowledge of firing methods. Students should have basic ceramics skills, and are welcome to hand build or throw work for the firing. Learn more about the instructor at https://www.suayceramics.com
